The 2019 WOODSTOCK NEIGHBORHOOD PLANT SALE is Saturday, May 11th from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Woodstock Community Center, 5905 E 43rd Ave.
It’s a tradition: A group of neighborhood friends who volunteer annually to help with the Woodstock Neighborhood Plant Sale get together for a hypertufa party, signifying the start of the year’s plant sale preparations. What’s hypertufa? Equal parts Portland cement, perlite, and peat moss mixed with water to a moldable consistency.
Enjoying hot drinks and sharing conversation over a couple of hours, they mix and mold hypertufa into used plastic containers to make the plant pots that will hold Shelly Keach’s beautiful miniature sedum gardens, a popular Mother’s Day gift sold at the plant sale. The next step is looking for a variety of sedums to put in the pots.
With the onset of spring, now is the time for gardeners to begin potting up unwanted volunteer seedlings or extra plant divisions from their yards to donate to the plant sale. Some enterprising volunteers plant seeds for tomatoes and other veggies. If you have pots to donate, contact Terry Griffiths at 503-771-0011 or Sandy Profeta at 503-771-7724. And see you at the sale!
Join Friends of the Woodstock Community Center for a PLANT DIVISION WORKSHOP led by gardening guru Melba Dlugonski, Saturday, April 6th from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the WCC, 5905 SE 43rd Ave.
