At the end of 2018, the WNA board voted unanimously to create a subcommittee to investigate and make recommendations for our organizational structure status, named the Organizational Structure of the WNA committee. The committee, open to all board and general members, came to the consensus that the federal 501(c)3 non-profit status would fit the needs and future goals of the WNA board. The committee presented their finding of pursuing 501(c)3 status to the board, and the board voted to move forward with the 501(c)3 status. The committee met twice monthly for over a year, reviewing the lengthy and detailed documentation and legal requirements of the IRS. The committee recommended (and the board approved) submitting the final draft application (including the bylaws and articles of incorporation) to a local attorney office specializing in non-profit law (The Center for Non-Profit Law). The attorney’s office determined we qualified for the IRS “short form.” They also determined our bylaws as they stood were not in compliance with IRS regulations, and recommended we start anew over line-item editing, which is what the committee elected to pursue.
Above are the bylaws that have been edited by our attorney for submittal to the IRS for consideration for 501(c)3 status.
